Ако сте започнали да си търсите боксови ръкавици, вероятно сте забелязали, че при тях няма характерните размери в сантиметри, а се използва мярката тежест. На всеки един чифт ръкавици има изписано конкретно тегло, например „10 oz” – това е унция. Тази мярка се отнася до физическото тегло на всяка ръкавица, а не към общото тегло. Следователно при чифт с размер 10oz всяка ръкавица ще тежи възможно най-близо до 10oz. 
Защо се използва мярката унция?
Измерването на ръкавиците според тяхното тегло вероятно ви се струва странно, но за това си има обяснение – всичко се свежда до количеството на подплънките и защитата, която всяка ръкавица има. Теглото е от значение при различните тренировки – ако удряте леко по чувал или на лапи, ще са ви необходими тънко подплатени ръкавици за скорост; ако имате спаринг или тренировката ви включва нанасяне на удар по друг човек – тогава ще ви трябват ръкавици, които имат повече подплънки, за да не нараните излишно партньора си. По правило колкото по-тежка е ръкавицата – толкова повече подплънки има.
Размерите на отделението за ръце вътре в ръкавиците обикновено са направени така, че да бъдат универсални и на теория трябва да успеете да вкарате ръцете си във всички размери боксови ръкавици за възрастни. Разбира се, че не е необходимо да си купувате няколко чифта ръкавици. Във всяка една зала има екипировка за начинаещи и любители, които тепърва навлизат в спорта или посещават тренировките, за да разпуснат.
